By gamergirl

One of the most popular games of the decade, World of Warcraft is a dazzling computer game catering to ten million subscribers and growing. Players will take themselves on a whirlwind adventure through exotic and exciting locations, playing characters from one of ten different races - each with their own awesome abilities.

The newest addition to this legendary game line is the brand new expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, which is currently scheduled to hit the shelves in stores on November 13th, 2008. There are two versions of the game coming out, but not to worry, all World of Warcraft players who purchase the expansion will be able to play in the new zones!

Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Edition

First, let's talk about the Collector's Edition of Wrath of the Lich King. If you remember when The Burning Crusade came out, you know that the Collector's Edition came with a mouse pad, an art book, a DVD to install the expansion, behind the scenes footage, a soundtrack for Burning Crusade, an in-game pet exclusive to Collector's Edition players, and exclusive World of Warcraft trading cards.

The Collector's Edition of Wrath of the Lich King (hereafter referred to as WotLK) is no different, featuring:

  1. Frosty, a frost wyrm - exclusive in-game pet!
  2. Two STARTER decks, that's right, full starter decks from the World of Warcraft TCG.
  3. Exclusive soundtrack - More than 20 songs from the game, plus bonus tracks of unknown (to most) detail.
  4. Wrath of the Lich King DVD-ROM, which you will need to install the expansion content.
  5. Behind the Scenes DVD featuring interviews with the developers, cinematic footage and more.
  6. Wrath of the Lich King Art - over 200 pages of art relating to the expansion.
  7. A mousepad printed with a map of the new continent of Northrend.

Rumor has it that all copies of WotLK will also feature the Blizzard Authenticator, which is a device that allows an extra measure of security for players. You can find more information about the Authenticator device through Blizzard's online store.

Wrath of the Lich King - Death Knights

The long awaited new Hero class makes it's debut in WotLK, and what a stunning debut it is. The Death Knight class is a combination of an magic user and plate armor wearer, and from all information given seems to be quite a formidable opponent.

How to unlock and create a Death Knight:

  • Have a level 55 or above character on your account. As per the Blizzard information on Death Knights, you will be able to create one per server, and on a PVP server you can only create one on your faction's side.
  • Official word: You will be able to create one death knight per realm, per account.

Death Knights, as per the Warcraft Lore, are historically zombies of terrible power raised by Gul'dan. The new Death Knights were created by the first and most powerful Death Knight, Prince Arthas, and are forsworn paladins doomed to immortality and violent rage, conquest and driving toward power in Arthas' name.

Wrath of the Lich King Zones

Here's a sneak peek - one of the starting zones in WotLK is called Borean Tundra:

  • Borean Tundra: Here, Horde Players will find quest hubs in Warsong Hold, Taunka'le Village, and Bor'gorok Outpost. Alliance players will find their quests in Valiance Keep and Fizzcrank Airstrip.
  • Borean Tundra Instances: The Nexus (Level 71-73), The Oculus (Level 80) and the raid instance The Eye of Eternity.

Other zones on the continent of Northrend include:

  • Sholazar Basin
  • Wintergrasp
  • DragonBlight
  • Howling Fjord
  • Grizzly Hills
  • Icecrown
  • Storm Peaks
  • Zul'Drak

Wrath of the Lich King: Fun Features

WotLK brings to us the option to change, for the first time in the history of World of Warcraft, our hair and face settings! At the barber shop, players can expect to pay up to 14 gold to change hair style, hair color, facial features and piercings, makeup and even tusk size for all you troll ladies!

Another fun feature of WotLK is the achievement system. The achievement system is a points system for (at present) over 500 different goals, many of which are involved in everyday gameplay. Some of the achievements you can expect to see are:

  • Zone exploration
  • Quest completion by zone
  • Gold earned from Auction House sales
  • Gold earned from any source
  • Longest fall without dying
  • Getting drunk
  • getting a shave and a haircut (using the barber shop)
  • sending mail
  • owning vanity pets
  • number of mounts
  • and much much much more!

So, in short, there is a LOT of stuff coming in Wrath of the Lich King, much more than just getting to level 80. If you play World of Warcraft, go reserve your copy today!

Hi gamergirl....very valuable information for present and future WOW players. I have an account but am a very limited player. It's my husband who is in a Guild and has many characters included his level 7o Hunter. I sent this Hub to his email. He said,"thanks for the heads up".

Why thank you! I compiled this for my own info too, mostly because I am getting tired of going back and forth and pointing people to eight different sources for info. :P

I think when the patch hits, there will be several groups running the old azeroth raids to get the achievements. I was on the PTR and the achievements are missing still from a lot of people. And the expansion looks wonderful. Especially the new data.
