Caveman Technology and Tools

Millions of years ago, the first technology appeared. It was used everywhere, and could be found anywhere you looked. Truly ingenious, the first technology was easy to use and free. It came in all shapes and sizes, and you could even custom fit this technology to your own preference.

The first technology... was a rock.

The use of this premier technology was what prompted the term "Stone Age," and this use of stones and rocks for various purposes marked a milestone in human evolution.

Every facet of the caveman's lifestyle was changed by the use of this first technology. Stones were used to break up animal flesh and bones, to smooth hides, chop up wood and all kinds of things our frail human hands couldn't do.

After a few hundred thousand years, as the scientists say, we got smarter with this fine specimen of technology. We made crude axes, which made our tasks involving cutting and killing more refined.

Then came fire.

Fire was another turning point in our development of technology, though not technically a technological advancement we can truly claim we made. Fire meant warmth in the winter, and protected us against other predators. We still had our stones, our precious technology. You can bet these high tech devices didn't mean swiping a card and making low monthly payments!

These tools helped the cavemen and cavewomen create a budding society of wood, stone and flesh for themselves. As their tools improved, so did everything else around them, shelter, clothing, the whole nine yards. All because of a little stone.

So, the next time you're going to kick a rock, don't! Revere it as the mother of all technology. If it hadn't been for a stone millions of years ago, you may not have ever had that iPhone, cell phone or computer!
